I spent the past two days biking from Grand Island to North Platte Nebraska. Yesterday I was facing 30 mph wind gusts and 97 degree weather. Out here there is nothing to block the wind or the sun, it was brutal. Today was much more uplifting though, 80 miles in 4 hours. The wind at my back and the temperature not nearly as hot. I also experienced one of the coolest landscape changes I've ever seen. It seem liked it all changed in the blink of an eye. One minute I'm biking on completely flat land with nothing but cornfields and the next minute there are hills and evergreens and pine trees all over the place. I had never seen landscape change so fast like that before. Now I finally feel like I'm getting out west! Tomorrow I'll bike into the next time zone, mountain time. I'll be in Wyoming on Monday!
